WNBA All-Star Weekend Kicks Off with Ionescu's Record-Breaking Performance

Skills Challenge and 3-Point Contest Excite the Crowd

New York Liberty Guard Sabrina Ionescu Electrifies Las Vegas

The 2023 WNBA All-Star Weekend got off to a thrilling start on Friday with the Skills Challenge and 3-Point Contest. Among the highlights was New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu's record-setting performance in the 3-Point Contest.

Ionescu, a first-time All-Star, electrified the crowd at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas by scoring a record 37 points in the contest. She surpassed the previous record of 33 points set by Elena Delle Donne in 2019.

Ionescu's victory was a fitting start to All-Star Weekend, which will feature the All-Star Game on Saturday evening. The game will pit Team USA against Team World and will be headlined by some of the biggest names in the WNBA, including Breanna Stewart, A'ja Wilson, and Paige Bueckers.

The Skills Challenge, which preceded the 3-Point Contest, also featured some impressive performances. Las Vegas Aces guard Kelsey Plum won the event with a time of 28.4 seconds, followed by New York Liberty guard DiDi Richards and Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas.

All-Star Weekend continues on Saturday with the All-Star Game, which is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM ET. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
