Mexico City Grand Prix: Leclerc takes shock pole

Charles Leclerc has shocked the Formula 1 world by taking pole position for the Mexico City Grand Prix, leading a Ferrari 1-2. The Monegasque driver pipped team-mate Carlos Sainz by just 0.024 seconds in qualifying, with Max Verstappen of Red Bull rounding out the top three.

Leclerc's pole position is his tenth of the season, and it comes after a difficult weekend for Ferrari in Mexico. The Italian team have struggled for pace all weekend, but Leclerc was able to pull out a stunning lap in qualifying to secure pole.

Sainz will be disappointed to have missed out on pole position, but he will be confident of challenging for the victory on Sunday. The Spaniard has been in excellent form all season, and he will be hoping to add to his tally of three wins this year.

Verstappen will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing qualifying session. The Dutchman was unable to match the pace of the Ferraris, and he will have to start from third on the grid.

The Mexico City Grand Prix is set to be a thrilling race, with Leclerc, Sainz and Verstappen all in contention for the victory. The race will take place on Sunday, October 30 at 3pm local time.
